RESTORATION UPDATES

January 24, 2023

The Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre (VDPAC) now has a timeline for restoration following water damage to the theatre’s main stage and auditorium in December. The theatre will have to be closed for most of February for stage floor replacement in order to resume full operations in March.

Fortunately, two popular annual events, the Snowed In Comedy Tour (January 28, 2023) and the re-scheduled Banff Mountain Film Festival (February 3 & 4, 2023), a Vernon Search and Rescue fundraiser, will go ahead before recosntruction begins.

VDPAC staff have worked closely with event organizers to reschedule, move, or cancel performances through February and are contacting affected ticket holders directly. The following events have been impacted:

  • Banff Mountain Film Festival (December 28 & 29, 2022) – rescheduled to February 3 & 4, 2023.
  • SPOTLIGHT Theatre Series: BOOM X (January 14, 2023) – postponed, future date to be announced.
  • Okanagan Symphony Orchestra’s Round Dance (January 22, 2023) – cancelled.
  • Snowed In Comedy Tour (January 28, 2023) – going ahead as scheduled.
  • SPOTLIGHT Kids Series: Karima Essa’s Body Positive Bollywood Dance Show (January 29, 2023) – moved to the Priest Valley Gym at the Greater Vernon Recreation Centre.
  • Ballet Jörgen’s masterclass for local dance students (February 10, 2023) – moved to the Okanagan School of Ballet.
  • SPOTLIGHT Dance Series: Ballet Jörgen’s Cinderella (February 11, 2023) – rescheduled to March 25, 2023.
  • Okanagan Symphony Orchestra’s Musical Giants (February 12, 2023) – moved to the Trinity United Church.
  • NOCCA’s Marc Atkinson Trio plus Cam Wilson (February 17, 2023) – moved to the Trinity United Church.
  • Tunes for Teeth fundraiser (February 24, 2023) – postponed, new date to be announced.

Ticketholders are urged to check-in with the Ticket Seller box office at 250-549-SHOW(7469), or online at ticketseller.ca for event updates, ticket availability and additional announcements.

“We want to thank everyone who has reached out with well-wishes these last few weeks; as well as those groups and resident companies who have also been impacted, and those who are supporting them, for all your patience and cooperation,” said Executive Director Jim Harding. “Your support makes it clear how important the VDPAC is to our community. We still have lots of work to do, but we look forward to seeing you again in March for another exciting spring season.”

The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival (December 29 & 30, 2022) and BOOM X (January 14, 2023) have been postponed to a later date.

Our Ticket Seller box office has set the following policies for current ticket-holders of post-poned performances:

Ticket Seller will automaticaly transfer your tickets and notify you about re-scheduled performance dates as soon as we know them.

If re-scheduled performance dates do not work for you, as a not-for-profit box office, Ticket Seller is asking ticket-holders to take a credit on their account and apply it to future events instead of an immediate refund. Refunds incur added non-recoverable banking and credit card charges that altogether would have a significant financial impact on us. Thank you for your understanding.

The Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre Society (VDPACS) is saddened to announce that a burst pipe has damaged the theatre’s main stage, forcing the cancellation of tonight’s concert performance.

St. James School’s Christmas Concert this evening has been moved to the Greater Vernon Recreation Centre Auditorium and will take place at 7:00PM as previously scheduled. Attendees are encouraged to contact the school office at 250-542-4081 if they have any questions. As this was a non-ticketed event, refunds do not apply.

Several performances are scheduled to happen at VDPAC in the coming weeks. Staff will be working closely with the organizers of those events to determine whether they may proceed or if they will need to be cancelled or rescheduled.

“We are extremely grateful for the quick response of our service-providers who have stepped-in to support us,” says Harding. “Once assessment have been completed, we will be communicating with the organizers of our scheduled guest artist bookings, our SPOTLIGHT shows and directly with all our ticketholders. Until then, we appreciate everyone’s concerns, patience, and support at this time.”

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
