In a small Jewish village in Russia called Chelm, or known by outsiders as the Village of Idiots, the Chelmniks live their lives in peace without much change until an outsider stumbles into their midst, Yosef, a runaway Jewish soldier from the Russian army. Miriam and the rest of the villagers must teach Yosef the ways of the Chelmniks and convince him to stay and help defend Chelm before the approaching Russian army arrives to wipe them off the face of the earth. Will they fend off the Russians in their own way or will they all die trying?
