From award-winning director and choreographer Igor Dobrovolskiy, and multi-disciplinary artist Nipahtuwet Naka Wespahtuwet (Possesom) Paul (Wolastoqiyik, Sitansisk First Nation), Pisuwin is an epic first ever Wolastoq story-ballet set to the soaring music of Polaris Prize and JUNO Award-winning composer Jeremy Dutcher (Wolastoqiyik, Neqotkuk First Nation).

Based on a Wolastoq tale, this multidisciplinary piece reflects on the current state of dis-ease in our world, illuminating a path to wholeness and rebalance. This project features eight dancers and blends Indigenous storytelling and ballet, re-defining this classical form for a diverse, savvy and contemporary audience.

Electronic sound, industrial landscapes and digital projection, juxtaposed with Wolastoq visual motifs of the spiritual and natural world, create the Indigenous cosmology within which the story takes place—delivered with the ethereal music and soaring vocals of Jeremy Dutcher.

“Why does the water no longer quench our thirst?” Pisuwin pushes us to confront our greed and alienation, while inspiring us to take a different path; one of connection, community and wholeness.

Choreography by Vernon’s own dance prodigy Cameron Fraser-Monroe, “T’əl (“Tull”), is a powerful fusion of Indigenous storytelling, contemporary ballet, and classical music—rooted in tradition and elevated for the stage.” -The Globe and Mail.

T’əl: The Wild Man of the Woods marks a bold new chapter in the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s repertoire with this west-coast première that unfolds an Indigenous legend through the lens of a fully Indigenous creative team.

Narrated in both English and Ayajuthem by Elder Elsie Paul, the story follows a fearless young woman who sets out to rescue her sister from T’əl, a dark figure who steals children under the cover of night. The evocative original score is composed by JUNO-nominated, Cris Derksen, a Two-Spirit cellist and composer. With stunning costume design by Asa Benally (Navajo designer and Yale alumnus), T’əl is a powerful fusion of movement, music, and storytelling that honours the richness of oral tradition.

Paired with one of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s most requested productions, Carmina Burana that is “a feast for the senses—visually stunning, musically absorbing, and emotionally pounding.” Choreographed by internationally acclaimed artist Mauricio Wainrot, this electrifying work fuses bold, athletic movement with Carl Orff’s cantata to create a visceral experience that transcends traditional storytelling.

Each scene pulses with energy and emotion, shifting seamlessly between moments of erratic intensity, tender romanticism, and unabashed sensuality. With sculptural lighting and costuming, and an ensemble of dancers moving as one powerful organism, Carmina Burana becomes more than performance—it becomes like ritual.

This Double Bill production from Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet features a company of 26 dancers and without doubt, an unforgettable Dance Series spectacle.

Perennial audience favourite, Ballet Jorgen returns with one of William Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies! Bengt Jörgen brings this story to life with his original ballet version as a tribute to Canada’s North and the magic of Northern Canada’s woodland, tundra landscapes and the completely engaging creatures of the forest such as moose, beavers, bears, and squirrels--set to Mendelssohn’s 1827 concert overture and 1843 instrumental score, including his famous “Wedding March.”

A Fun, Appealing Story! Four Athenians find themselves in a forest inhabited by fairies who manipulate the humans and are engaged in their own domestic intrigue. It is a lighthearted, humorous and fun tale of love and, often misguided, magic set in motion by the mischievous trickster Puck.
Bengt Jörgen brings this classic story to life with his own original ballet version. In addition to Ballet Jorgen’s professional dancers, each performance includes up to 10 age-appropriate roles for local young aspiring dancers, ages 9 to 17, through Ballet Jörgen's Local Participant Program.

This family-friendly short ballet will captivate audiences of all ages and will warm the hearts of young and old alike.

Ballet Kelowna triumphantly returns with Choreographer Alysa Pires’ wildly successful theatrical ballet, Macbeth-a visually stunning and familiar, but no less compelling, full-length adaptation that explores the dark side of human nature with its timely, and timeless, themes of ambition, power, and corruption that characterize William Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy.

This acclaimed, dazzling production infuses Macbeth with high-stakes drama and suspense. An original score of toil and trouble by Canadian composer Adam Sakiyama and stunning visuals by Okanagan artist Jane Everett set the scene for an exploration of psychological decay.

Considered one of Shakespeare’s best-loved plays, Macbeth follows the story of the titular character, a brave soldier and powerful man, whose heady ambitions to Scotland’s throne turn him into a callous, yet tortured, murderer, spurred on by his equally determined wife, Lady Macbeth. As Macbeth and Lady Macbeth become hopelessly entangled by their atrocities, the pair descend into madness.
